Will Dodge Release an Electric Muscle Car?

There is no denying that the auto market is changing. While gasoline engines have dominated for decades, apart from the appearance of diesel engines in some usage formats, we are now seeing automakers across the globe put their focus on electric mobility.

So, what about a brand like Dodge? Dodge is, of course, well known for its high-powered performance vehicles. When you think of a “muscle car,” chances are you think of the Dodge Challenger or Charger. Both models have been a fixture of the American automotive scene for such a long time that it is hard to imagine such a drastic change as Dodge taking them electric.

What We Know About a Future Electric Dodge Charger

Yet, that is exactly what it sounds like Dodge is prepared to do. This may not mean that gasoline-powered options won’t be available, but it does appear that we will finally see an electrically-powered Charger in the near future.

Dodge teased such a model with its Daytona SRT Concept at the 2022 SEMA Show. Using a range of battery and powertrain options, Dodge showed off the kind of power an electric Charger could deliver. While the base model delivered 455 horsepower, another version of the concept model was capable of pumping out up to 670 horsepower.

Of course, an electric vehicle can’t naturally deliver the roar that drivers have come to expect from the Charger’s exhaust. In this concept, however, Dodge utilized the Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust, a system that can replicate the engine and exhaust noise drivers love from their gasoline-powered vehicles. How exactly this could be utilized is yet to be seen, as Dodge has committed to using consumer feedback to lead its direction in developing this unique sound.
