What’s New For The 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee

2024 Jeep Grand CherokeeThe first Jeep Grand Cherokee made its debut in the 1993 model year and thus celebrated its 30th anniversary this year. It was also the first new Jeep model to launch after Chrysler purchased the Jeep brand in 1987, and Chrysler spent years getting the product right before it launched. The Grand Cherokee has always been a premium model in the large crossover category managing to offer both more true off-road ability and more luxury than its peers in the segment.

The 5th-generation Grand Cherokee made its debut in early 2021 with the Grand Cherokee L, in which the wheelbase and overall length were stretched to include a 3rd-row seat. Followed by the 2022 two-row Grand Cherokee, the fifth generation represented the biggest visual change in the model since its debut. Its shorter, forward-leaning seven-section grille leads to a finely chiseled body topped by an available contrasting black roof, further enhancing the Grand Cherokee’s upscale appearance.

2024 Grand CherokeeThe interior is simply a thing of beauty with available wood finish stretching across the dash and extending into the door panels and even the steering wheel. A digital gauge cluster and 10-inch center touchscreen keep the driver informed with another available display exclusively for the front passenger.

This generation has also produced a Grand Cherokee family of vehicles, which in addition to the Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L, includes the 4xe plug-in hybrid model, the most technologically advanced Grand Cherokee model to date.

New Grand Cherokee Gauge PanelThe 4xe can charge fully overnight from a normal household socket to provide 25 miles of all-electric driving, which is enough to cover many owners’ daily commutes. Overall, the model is rated at 56 MPGe, even as it produces 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. The 4xe is Trail Rated and includes a Trailhawk model, which conquered the legendary Rubicon trail on all-electric power. New for the 4xe this year is the Anniversary Edition, an extension of the 2023 30th Anniversary Edition which offers the following:

  • Capri leatherette seats
  • Ventilated front seats
  • Wireless charging pad
  • Nine-speaker Alpine audio
  • Uconnect 5 NAV
  • Unique blacked-out exterior
  • 20-inch black wheels
  • Body-color rear fascia, lower moldings, sill claddings, and wheel flares

The other 2024 changes for the Grand Cherokee 4xe are new 18-inch black-painted aluminum wheels for the Trailhawk model.

2024 Jeep Grand CherokeeChanges for the rest of the Grand Cherokee lineup bring refinement and style. The conventionally powered Trailhawk model also gets the black 18-inch wheels as standard equipment and the Grand Cherokee Limited also gets new standard 18-inch polished/painted aluminum wheels.

Unchanged on the gas-only models is the standard Pentastar 3.6-liter V-6-powered Grand Cherokee L, rated at 290 horsepower and 257 lb.-ft. of torque, and can tow up to 6,200 pounds. Available is the 5.7-liter V-8, producing 357 horsepower and 390 lb.-ft. of torque with a best-in-class towing capacity of up to 7,200 pounds. For off-road capability, the Grand Cherokee offers no less than three 4WD systems: Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II, and Quadra-Drive II with rear electronic limited-slip differential (ELSD). All three systems are equipped with an active transfer case to improve traction by moving torque to work with the wheel with the most grip.

Rugged Jeep Grand CherokeeThe 2024 Grand Cherokee may not have changed extensively for 2024, but that is because it didn’t have to. It is still the premium model of choice in its class with fine road manners, and uncontested off-road capability.
