Safety Tips for Towing With Your Ram Truck

Having a Ram pickup truck means you have the capability to tow some heavy equipment, but there is a lot to consider when ensuring that you are towing safely. Failing to safely tow with your Ram or any other truck can result in putting you and your passengers at risk, as well as others on the road. So, let’s take a look at some of the top safety tips you should keep in mind before hooking up your trailer and while out towing on the road.

Safety Checks Before Towing

  • Check the tire pressure on your trailer and vehicle
  • Adjust your mirrors so you can see the trailer
  • Make sure your chains are in good operating condition
  • Ensure the brake lights on your trailer are working properly

Advanced Technology to Make Ram Towing Safer

Depending on what model or model year your pickup is, your Ram truck may be equipped with a suite of advanced safety tech designed to make towing both easier and safer. Therefore, it’s important to be aware of these features and know how to use them.

For example, your Ram may be equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system that allows you to set a preferred tire pressure to best handle your towing needs. If the system recognizes that one or more of your tires’ psi has dipped below that threshold, it will send you a warning in the instrument cluster. This feature also sounds off with two beeps of the horn when you are filling the tires with air to let you know that you’ve reached the desired psi.

Another useful feature is Adaptive Cruise Control. This feature may not be exclusive to Ram pickups but if your Ram is equipped with the technology, it can be a massively useful tool for towing safety. The system is capable of monitoring the vehicle ahead of you and adjusting speed to help you maintain a safe distance between you and the vehicle ahead without you having to frequently apply the brakes.
