MOPAR At SEMA
Ever since SEMA was founded in 1963, they have had a rich history of providing a space to show off some of the latest and greatest parts, companies, and products imaginable. The Speciality Equipment Market Association, SEMA, was originally called the Speed Equipment Manufacturing Association when it was founded in 1963. The name was changed in 1970. These days, SEMA holds their annual show in Las Vegas to showcase all the innovations in the industry.
Dodge has long been a big supporter of SEMA, but sadly due to the recent strike, Stellantis ended up pulling out of the show this year. Luckily, that didn’t stop them from releasing something really amazing for the fans to enjoy: The Dodge Hellephant C170 for sale through Direct Connection, the official distributor of Mopar products, including their special line of car care products with Jay Leno.
Dodge first showed off the Hellephant 426 Supercharged Mopar Crate HEMI at SEMA in 2018, with a limited 100 units which sold out in two days. That engine was 426 cubic inches and had a 3.0-liter IHI supercharger that, in total, made 1,000 horsepower and 950 lb-ft of torque on 93-octane pump gas. With a price tag of $29,995, buyers thought it was a steal for what it could provide.
The new 2024 Hellephant Crate Series will be available from Direct Connection in their catalog. If you buy your crate motor through participating Dodge Power Brokers dealers, you can get up to $1,000 off the purchase price through the end of 2023. The motors listed below will all be available in the first quarter of 2024. The part numbers and specifications are listed below:
- Hellephant C170 6.2L Supercharged Crate HEMI Engine (part number: 68660541AA): MSRP: $27,695
- The Hellephant C170 6.2L Supercharged Crate HEMI Engine is the motor that made the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 the most powerful muscle car ever made. When fully built, includes the C170 Long Block and has a 3.0-liter IHI supercharger with a tweaked intercooler, larger snout, and a 3.02-inch pulley for increased boost, a 105mm throttle body with new housing, blade, shaft and gear train, all component upgrades found in the C170 Long Block and more.

- Hellcrate Redeye 6.2L Supercharged Crate HEMI Long Block (part number: P5160619AA): MSRP: $12,995
- Those with Charger or Challenger projects will want to look at the long block from the Hellcat Redeye. With 807 horsepower and 717 lb.-ft. of torque, this package comes with the engine assembly components from cylinder head with valvetrain, the engine block with crankshaft, connecting rods, piston and ring, camshaft and lifters, oil pump, and pan, and front timing cover with harmonic balancer.
- Hellcrate 6.2L Supercharged Crate HEMI Long Block (part number: P5160618AA): MSRP: $9,495
- If you feel as though you don’t quite need more than 800 horsepower, then maybe this block would make you feel a little more frugal. This option produces 717 horsepower and 656 lb.-ft. of torque. Like the package above it also includes engine assembly components from the cylinder head with valvetrain, engine block with crankshaft, connecting rods, piston and ring, camshaft and lifters, oil pump, and pan, and front timing cover with harmonic balancer.
- 392 Crate HEMI Long Block (part number: P5160617AA): MSRP: $6,995
- The naturally aspirated 392 Hemi engine is a force to be reckoned with. This block is able to produce 485 horsepower and 475 lb.-ft. of torque. It too comes with the engine assembly components from the cylinder head with valvetrain, engine block with crankshaft, connecting rods, piston and ring, and camshaft and lifters.
- 345 Crate HEMI Long Block (part number: P5160616AA): MSRP: $4,495
- In 2015, when the Dodge Challenger and Charger debuted, they came with the old school 5.7-liter 345 HEMI. The 345 Crate HEMI Long Block offers a foundation that can produce 383 horsepower and 417 lb.-ft. of torque.
- HurriCrate Cat 3 Twin Turbo Crate Long Block (part number: P5160622AA): MSRP: $8,995
- A cousin to the 3.0-liter Hurricane twin-turbo engine, this block can produce up to 550 horsepower and 531 lb.-ft. of torque from 3,500 rpm. HurriCrates feature state-of-the-art engineering and technologies that include two low-inertia, high-flow turbochargers for rapid response to throttle inputs, Plasma Transfer Wire Arc (spray bore) coating in the cylinder bores for an ultra-thin, low-friction wear surface, and high-pressure direct fuel injection.
- HurriCrate Cat 1 Twin Turbo Crate Long Block (part number: P5160621AA): MSRP: $6,495
- Just like the HurriCrate Cat 3, this block was also engineered from the 3.0-liter Hurricane twin-turbo engine, and is able to make up to 420 horsepower and 468 Ib.-ft. of torque by 2,500 rpm, delivering more horsepower, more torque, and fewer emissions than many naturally aspirated V-8 engines.
