How does Stellantis’ Emergency Vehicle Alert System work?
Starting with the 2018 model year, many Stellantis vehicles have been equipped with a technology called Emergency Vehicle Alert System. Now, more than 1.8 million Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and RAM vehicles are equipped with this now-standard industry-leading vehicle-to-everything (V2X) technology. We thought we’d highlight exactly what this technology, sometimes called EVAS, is and how it works, before touching on similar technologies that might be coming out in the future.

How does EVAS work?
If you own or have spent any real time shopping for a Stellantis vehicle, then you’ve likely heard of Uconnect. This is the automaker’s connected-vehicle platform that powers its infotainment system and delivers a host of features and technologies to owners’ fingertips via the display audio screen. EVAS, which is just one such technology, is capable of sending an alert to drivers when emergency vehicles and other roadway hazards are in the vicinity.
How exactly does it do this? By harnessing the power of Safety Cloud, which is the largest V2X platform for digital alerts in the country. EVAS is integrated into Safety Cloud, which is a platform created by HAAS Alert. Safety Cloud receives all kinds of information from vehicles and more – not just emergency vehicles but also tow trucks, disabled vehicles, work zones and arrow boards.
What is HELP?
Thanks to the success of EVAS, Stellantis is now working on their next driver safety notification that will harness the power off V2X. The technology they’re currently working on is called HELP, which stands for Hazard Enhanced Location Protocol. This system will work with Emergency Safety Solutions Inc. to deliver similar alerts to drivers, but this time in regards to disabled vehicles that might be a danger to the driver.
What does this mean for the future?
With EVAS laying the groundwork for HELP, this is likely just the beginning of everything Stellantis can accomplish through V2X technologies. They’ve built a foundation on which they can build more and more great features to further enhance the safety of everyone on the road, which should be a top priority for every automaker in the industry.
This will help go a long way toward the company’s Dare Forward 2030 strategic plan, which was to implement cutting-edge mobility. The automaker is already working on several other technology platforms, including STLA Brain, STLA SmartCockpit and STLA AutoDrive, each of which will be found in the brand’s new BEVs coming in 2024.
